6 Clever Packing Tips To Make Your Travel Easier

July 27, 2017

No matter how much you love to travel, you can’t say the same about packing, can you? Remember that time when you forgot to pack something important and it left you frustrated and disappointed, which almost cost you your enjoyment of the trip? Or that time when you over-packed in fear that you might miss something you needed? (Yes, the excess baggage fee is a nightmare and takes a toll on your budget.)

Here are some quick and clever tips that will help you sort out your packing dilemma.

  1. The packing list is the Holy Grail

It all starts with planning, and that packing list. When we were scouts (and if you were one when you were a kid) you know that the most important thing is being prepared. Starting off your packing with a list helps you get organized, or rather, forces you to be organized. If you’re worried you might leave something at home be it your passport, toothbrush, or that teddy bear you had since you were six, just write down a list of all your trip essentials. Preparation is always key. Or if you have too much to bring, you can read our article on the 7 things you DON’T need to pack to help you lessen that baggage weight!

  2. Pack well, get the aids and the tool kits

If you plan on packing a razor or anything that can potentially ruin your clothes, be sure to pack them correctly. Using an oversized binder clip to cover your razor will prevent any unforeseen incidents from happening. Be sure to place your jewelry in safe containers as well as keep your valuables (i.e. cash, passport, cellphone) on your person at all times (like inside your carry on). If you have delicate items, like that expensive silk scarf or tie, get a zip-lock clear plastic bags from the supermarket (they come in all sorts of sizes) and put the delicate and expensive items sealed and protected (and the clear bags help you identify them without having to take them off the bags–only when you need them!)

  3. Know the rules (and don’t break them!)

Have you ever been delayed from passing through security because you brought liquids or gels that exceeded the allowed amount? (There goes the $500 bottle of wine you wanted to give your parents for their anniversary). Some items are not allowed on planes (the same way a country doesn’t allow you to enter if carrying certain illegal items). Be sure to do your research, this will help you save on both space and money and all the hassle that comes when you get stopped at the airport for things that you should not have packed or carried in the first place!

  4. Pack two-in-one items

If you’re someone who values both fashion and practicality, dual-purpose items – like a pair of jeans that you can wear during the day for something casual, or dress up during the night for an evening out around town; or a dress that can pass for a cool top- might just be your thing. For men–optimizing clothing had been quite inherent, but it pays to be reminded to implement these practical tips too! Not only are they fashionable, but they also allow you to be economical with money and space.

  5. Roll, don’t fold

Avoid the burden of having to iron all your clothes after packing by rolling them. You can also place them in vacuum compression bags after rolling them to protect them further as well as save a little extra space.

  6. Fill empty spaces

It’s as simple as that. Just remember to keep the weight in check too- (you wouldn’t want those excess fees coming your way). A little tip here would be to roll tops, socks, or other small items into your shoes or hats to make sure you make use of every little space there is.
