7 Things you DON’T need to pack

August 23, 2017

With your itinerary planned and your hotel booked, the last thing you need to check off your list is your luggage. To help you make your packing more manageable and your baggage lighter, here are 7 things you DON’T need to pack. Ready to pack smarter?

  1. Guide Books

Come on, it’s the 21st Century! Gone are the days when people used to stuff their bags with thick guidebooks and maps, now we have Google maps and Ulmon to name a few. Just download the map of your destination and information on where you want to go, and voilà you’re good to go!

  2. Tech Gadgets

We’re not saying not to pack your gadgets; we’re saying not to pack ALL of them. Instead, try to find the gadget that can perform the same task as the others, so you can bring fewer gadgets with you. This also means you only need to bring fewer chargers so it’s a double win! And then just sync your iTunes music on your iPhone so you don’t find yourself obliged to bring your iPod too!

  3. Tons of Clothes

We sometimes have the tendency to overpack, especially if it’s our first trip in a while – better safe than sorry right? So here’s a neat trick someone was gracious enough to share with us: lay out all the clothes and money you plan to bring, and then pack half the clothes and double the money! Also, stick to two colors to lessen stress over fashion and styling. It’s simple, yet it works.

  4. Shoes

Shoes can take up a lot of space and time to match the outfits. Luckily, if you followed the advice earlier and stuck to two colors, this will become a whole lot easier. Once you’ve chosen the shoes that go well with your outfits, pick one dressy pair and another that’s comfortable (i.e running shoes, flipflops, sandals) and you’re good to go!

  5. Toiletries

We know that we can be partial to our brands, but what would you rather have? A suitcase of clothes and accessories you can mix and match or toiletries you can get from the hotel or store you’re going to? Uh-huh, we thought so.

  6. Travel Iron

We know nobody likes wrinkled clothes, but where you’re headed, there’s most likely an iron. Or if they don’t it’s ok, breathe, we got this, or rather you got this, just hang them in the bathroom while you shower and boom, the heat/steam will work the wrinkles right out. Neat huh?

  7. Over the counter medicine

Most countries have strict laws about bringing medicine and other things you’re not allowed to carry. Even bringing over the counter meds are considered illegal in some countries (like Japan). So be proactive and cautious, check the country or embassy’s laws for more details.

Most of the things listed above will not only save you space in your luggage but potentially save you from jail time as well. So stay safe, always be cautious, travel smart, and good luck on your next adventure. Keep traveling! And #BeatTheDistance!
