Welcome to AirWayBill’s FAQs!
Most people have doubts when experiencing or trying out something for the first time, and we totally understand that. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the most frequently asked questions from our community members so that you can put your mind at ease, start packing and #GetCarrying and #GetShipping!
For Carriers
How do I get paid?
First things first, you need to sign up for our community. You can do that in one of two ways, first is through the website, and the other is through downloading the app. You can sign up by either connecting your Facebook account or entering your email and creating a password.
Once you’ve offered to carry a package, AirWayBill will give you a prompt to register your PayPal account where you will automatically receive your payment when the transactions is completed and you have been given the 6-digit confirmation code.
How do I find shippers?
After you’ve registered, simply click on “browse packages to carry” and you will see all the requests from your area. Or if there are no packages in your area or you have a stopover and want to carry more – kudos to you – you can sort them by destination, package size, and value. When you find an item that fits your travel plans and luggage allowance, strike up a conversation and get carrying!
Can I transport more than one item?
Of course! You can carry as many items as your luggage space (and credit card limit) allows! Make the most out of your trip by carrying more than one item and earn more as you travel.
What if the requested item’s value changes?
Worry not as you can always work around it. Before you buy the item, make sure the shipper approves of the new price. If they’re fine with it, they can cancel the original request and post another with the updated price. You then accept the new offer and voilà! You’re done and there are no fees charged for the update.
What if the shipper cancels?
If the shipper changes their mind after you have accepted the offer before the item has been picked up, there is a cancellation fee of 5%. However, if it was cancelled after the pickup, the shipper will be charged the full fee.
What about the duty fee, who shoulders it?
There may be items that need a duty fee, that’s why before accepting an item, do a bit of digging.Find out if the rules of the country you’re headed to requires a customs clearance for the item and how much the duty is. Tell the shipper/shopper about it and if they agree to pay, you can inform us at info@airwaybill.com, then, you can declare and pay on the shipper/shopper’s behalf. AirWayBill will then reimburse you with the fee and charge the shipper.
How can I contact the shipper without giving my contact details?
We understand that you may be a bit hesitant about giving your contact details to other community members, and we’re here to help! If you remember, when you were signing up, AirWayBill had asked for your contact details, this is to allow you to contact the shipper and vice versa inside the app without having to give out your digits.
Once there is an accepted offer, the shipper or the carrier can tap on the “call” button, which will call the other party’s phone number. If you’re not a fan of phone calls, you can also message each other on the application.
Shippers/Shoppers
How does a shipper/shopper pay?
Like the carriers, you first need to download the app and make an account to join our community. Then, once done, you need to post a picture of the item you want delivered or which you have requested to be bought. Enter some important details like the item’s value, location, and the carrier fee, and then enter your credit card number and wait for the verification.
If you requested an item to be bought, the item’s price plus the carrier’s fee will be automatically charged when the transaction is completed. If you only wanted an item delivered, then the carrier’s fee will be deducted once the transaction is complete.
How do I know the right person is getting the delivery?
Good question, and here’s our answer: we use a double-check security system to make sure items reach the right person. The carrier checks the ID of the person who is there to receive the item and sends it to the shipper; which the carrier can show as proof. Also, the receiver will have a six digit code from the shipper which the carrier needs to complete the transaction.
How do I know the item will be safe?
No need to fret, the carrier has every reason to take good care of your item, because its full value will be deducted from the carrier’s credit card if the delivery is not made. If that happens, the value of the item will be refunded to you.
How much does it cost?
The standard fee is 10% of the value of the item. However, for items under $200, the minimum $20 fee applies. But you can always sweeten the deal by offering more, that way you can improve your chances of finding a carrier and help convince someone to take a heavy or bulky item.
What happens if my item gets seized at customs?
Before accepting an item, shippers/shoppers and carriers should make sure it is legal to bring it into the destination country. This is because if an illegal item is seized, the carrier is responsible for the cost of the item. However, if a legal item is seized improperly, just contact us, and AirWayBill will help you recover it.
AirWayBill reminder: in order to avoid any delays or unexpected seizures of the item, please take note of and adhere to the laws of the country your item is going to and located in, and remember not to post any sealed packages or items on the app. Stick to simple easily inspected items like keys, dresses, and the like.
If you have any other questions or doubts, shoot us an email at info@airwaybill.com and we’ll help you as much as we can. Let’s #BeatTheDistance!
